Roof cleaning is an important part of property maintenance, for a number of reasons. A moss covered roof will detract from the appearance of your home and when left untreated it can also cause other problems such as damage to roof tiles & retention of excess water.

Roof cleaning techniques

There are two approaches that can be used to effectively remove moss from a roof, these are:

  • Steam cleaning
  • Hand scraping with or without biocide

Hand scraping is the cheapest fix but without the biocide treatment the process will need repeated sooner. Biocide treatment is more expensive but the results last for longer. Pressure washing risks damaging your roof tiles and mortar joints. Steam been our preferred option.

Roof moss removal

Without regular cleaning you may find that a build up of organic materials on the roof leads to excess debris, this can clog your gutters and cause other problems. One of the main reasons for roof cleaning is the removal of moss, if neglected moss and other matter can start to grow out of control they can weaken roof tiles, widen cracks, as well as acting like a sponge when it comes to water.

Roof steam cleaning

Steam cleaning is the most eco friendly option as there is no need for any chemicals, the high temperature will kill any moss and weeds eliminating the expecse of the biocide, while effortlessly cleaning your roof. As steam runs at minimal pressure it negates the risk of damage a high pressure cold washer could cause. Steam will remove all staining from your roof tiles resting them like brand new.

Roof soft wash cleaning

Softwashing is a method of roof cleaning that doesn't use any pressure, rather it relies on chemicals applied via a spray or brush that kill moss, algaes and organic growths. A soft clean is the alternate approach preferred when the roof is too fragile for high heat or even minimal pressure.
